Identification
Item: Great Expectations, Market Place 1895
Description: The shop on the left appears empty. On the corner is Shakerley, Chemist and Druggist. As evening shadows fall, the clock set into the first shop in the Greenmarket, perhaps shows a time of 1740. Fifteen people are standing on the pavements and in the road on the corner. They are looking towards Chapel Street. The man, 4th to the left appears to be in uniform and carrying a bell. The man behind him is playing a drum and the man at his side appears to be a one man band. On the right is a bow window, part of the Barnaby Lloyd Drapery. To its left is the J N Hall shop. A deep gutter in front of the drapery might originate from the spring out of sight in Causewayhead and run through the market stalls behind the camera.
