Tin smelting slab
marble slab with many thin vertical grooves cut into it. It came from the Tin Smelting House at Chyandour and was used to make 'streaky tin'. Molten metal was run through these channels, which were often treated with lamp black to assist the flow, into flat metal moulds. The Smelting House was closed down circa 1912, though the buildings were not demolished until the 1930s.
