Full Name: colour postcard
Brief Description: The 'South America' was wrecked in St Loy Bay, west of Tater Dhu, between Porthcurno and Lamorna in thick weather on 13 March 1912. Her crew got ashore safely in their lifeboats, guided by local man John Richards. On the evening of 12 March she signalled the Lizard. Shortly afterwards there was poor visibility with drizzle and rain. In Mount's Bay she had to alter course to avoid pilchard drifters. She altered course too early and ran ashore. While the 'South America' was being broken up on 14 October 1912, the French steamer 'Abertay' ran aground alongside her in fog.
