IDENFIFICATION
Brief Description: Unidentified group of children stood around a gas lamp on the corner of Foundry Square, Hayle named after the Harvey foundry. The building on the left (22/23 Foundry Square) was Barclays Bank and the Town Hall before the top storey was lost in a fire in the 1930s. The bottom half remains in 2016 as Lloyds Bank. In the middle of the photograph is the old White Hart Hotel which was built by Henry Harvey around 1824. To its right is the new White Hart built on Penpol Pool, a semi stagnant pond which was blamed for cholera in the town. It was linked to the old inn by a corridor. William Crotch took on the whole enterprise in 1837 which opened in 1838 as a coaching inn on the route between Land's End and Truro. It still functions as a hotel and restaurant in 2016.
