It’s National Volunteers Week! Over 120 people volunteer at Penlee, either as gallery stewards, helping run events and activities, or with the collections. Helen has been volunteering at Penlee House for 6 years! Find out more about why Helen volunteers at Penlee House.
I started as a volunteer at Penlee House about 6 years ago, I met with the Education and Outreach Officer to ask if I could help with any creative projects with families. Zoe was really enthusiastic and made me feel very welcome.
As a volunteer I have been involved with a variety of projects, such as regular Saturday activities for families, helping with workshops led by visiting artists, supporting during school visits to the gallery. There is always a new project to get involved with at Penlee House Gallery and Museum. I always feel my help as a volunteer is really valued.
During this time as a volunteer I have met interesting people, shared ideas, learnt new skills and made new friendships along the way.
My advice to anyone thinking about being a volunteer is “ give it a go “, you will be surprised by what you can learn and how much you can contribute too.
Penlee House is a beautiful art gallery and museum, set within sub-tropical gardens, with a great café.
