We are delighted to report that Penlee House Gallery & Museum has received a generous donation from a private benefactor. This John Anthony Park (1878-1962) painting of Penberth was recently on show at Penlee House in the exhibition A Passion for Cornish Art: 50 Years of Private Collecting, 2023.
Seawards (Penberth), c.1931, Oil on canvas. Penlee House Gallery & Museum
In March 1931 The Western Morning News published a photo and beneath it the text “St Ives Show Day: Mr J.A.Parks (sic) with his painting ‘Seawards’, which he is submitting to the Royal Academy. It will be on view today with other pictures by St Ives artists.” In the event Park showed Merrifield Farm instead.
Penlee House is a beautiful art gallery and museum, set within sub-tropical gardens, with a great café.
