A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Orangery Café

The Orangery Café has indoor and outdoor seating. It uses the best local produce for its cakes and light lunches. Children’s portions are available.

Toilets

Penlee House has toilet facilities, including an accessible toilet and baby change. The Gallery is part of the Penzance Community Toilet Scheme which offers free facilities to the public.

Accessible Facilities

Penlee House has a ramp or steps to the main entrance, level access throughout the ground floor, and a lift in addition to stairs to the upstairs galleries. The Orangery Cafe is accessible and there is an accessible toilet and baby change. A wheelchair is available to borrow for use in the galleries. More access information

For Younger Visitors

There are lots of ways to explore Penlee House, with free gallery trails, creative materials, colouring sheets, ‘Fishermen’s Pockets’ with toys to entertain younger visitors, and dressing up! We also run regular activities for everyone from babies to big kids in the galleries. See What’s On.

Between Exhibitions

Whilst installing new exhibitions it is necessary to close some of the galleries, so please check what is open before making a special journey during those times. Click here for current details. Admission to Penlee House is half price during exhibition install periods.

Guided Tours

Our team of Volunteer Tour Guides offer insights into the exhibitions through a program of short guided tours. The tours are included in the admission price to the Gallery and last around 45 minutes. See the Events page for specific dates.

Dogs

Assistance dogs on leads are welcome inside the building. Dogs on leads are welcome within the park and on the terrace outside the café. However, please note that dogs are not allowed inside the building. A water bowl is provided on the terrace.

Penlee Park

Penlee House is set in the beautiful Penlee Park, which has sub-tropical plants and mature trees. The tranquil Memorial Garden and Sensory Garden offer places for quiet enjoyment. For younger visitors the park also offers a children’s play area.
