Identification
Item: The 'bathing place' at Battery Rocks, Penzance before the Jubilee Pool was built.
Description: The photograph shows the bathing place and diving boards at Battery Rocks, Penzance which in earlier times would have been the site of the Barbican Battery defensive area and now the Jubilee Pool. The buildings in the background are from left to right: a terrace of houses and the uphill approach to Under Chapel Yard and Green Street; the Yacht Inn in an earlier building (prior to its current Art Deco structure; St Mary's Church; the Penzance Sailor's Institute built in 1908; the entrance to Coinage Hall Street followed by a number of houses and businesses leading westwards towards the Barbican building near the right hand edge of the photograph. The War Memorial which is out of view would be to the right of the Barbican.
