A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Identification

Item: The lugger PZ221 'Lydia', (thought to be) Newlyn Harbour, Cornwall.

Description: The Ist Class lugger 'Lydia', in what is assumed to be Newlyn Harbour near the Old Harbour, looking through the gaps towards Penzance. 46ft long, 17.5 tons, the Skipper and Owner between 1877 and 1896 was John Cowls, Porthleven. Sold in 1896 to Benjamin Richards and Richard Worth, Newlyn. Skipper R. Worth until 1905 when the 'Lydia' was condemned and the registration cancelled.
