Item: Alexandra Road, Penzance
Description: Alexandra Road was built in 1865 to link Alverton Road with the Promenade. At that time the main link from the town to the sea front was via Chapel Street which was also the main thoroughfare to the docks for the mules carrying tin and goods from the countryside. It was opened by Her Royal Highness Alexandra, Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall on 24 July 1865. She was crowned Queen Empress Consort in the 1901 coronation for Edward VII.
