Item: Longliners at Newlyn, c.1950.
Description: A close up shot of Longliners at Newlyn Harbour, with PZ 134 'Ocean Pride' to the right. Stevenson's began converting ex-Admiralty Motor Fishing Vessels (MFVs) for trawling in the late 1940s. Trawling gradually replaced long lining as the main means of catching white fish at Newlyn. Stevenson's programme of acquiring trawlers was inspired by the success of the Belgian trawler fleet at Newlyn during the 2nd World War.
