Item: The Fleet in Mount's Bay, Penzance
Description: View over Newlyn Harbour and Mount's Bay when the Western Union Fleet visited Penzance in 1949. The Fleet anchored in Mounts Bay from 30 June to 4 July 1949 with 109 units. Thousands of visitors came to Penzance to see the ships. For the first time, British, French, Dutch and Belgian warships took part in a combined naval exercise under an over-all-command.
