Identification
Item: Tin streaming in the 20th century
Description: The location is thought to be in the Redruth area and shows surface mining or tin streaming. The man in a towser apron is collecting the silt in the bottom of the tank which would contain a high tin content. Water would be passed over rocks and rubble containing tin; the water would then be brushed by a circular mechanism before being allowed to settle. This method seems to have died out here in the early 1960s.
