Item: Penzance Public Buildings, Alverton Street, Penzance
Description: The image shows Penzance Public Buildings incorporating St John's Hall in the foreground, looking towards what is now the Lloyds (Bank) dome. Also in view is (what was) Swan's Wool and Toy shop and the premises of Olver & Son. They established premises in 1840. In 1855, the business was purchased by the Truro firm Criddle and Smith and in 1909 Alfred Smith joined the firm as a manager, purchasing the business in 1912. In 1925, he was joined by his son.
