Item: Steam Engine Rally
Description: The West of England Steam Engine Society was formed after the first traction engine rally ever to be staged in Cornwall on Saturday 3 September 1955, which is the event pictured in this photograph. It was held at Crombe Caravan Camp near Camborne and organised by the proprietor Mr Charles Gregory, along with Messrs Jack Trounson, Joe Warren and Haynes. The nearest full scale rally at this time was 200 miles away at Andover. Six full size steam engines attended the event and a steam car plus several small steam engine models.
