Item: A 'Kist' on Samson, Isles of Scilly
Description: A photograph of a 'Cist' or 'Kist' opened by Augustus Smith in 1863. It contained burned remains. Alexander Gibson investigated this kist and photographed it for his records. A C/Kist is a square or rectangular box with sides constructed of stone slab placed on edge and covered by one large or several smaller capstones. Thought to be Bronze Age as dated from the pottery found within.
