Item: Chimney Rocks and Penzance Promenade from Battery Rocks.
Description: A view of 'Chimney Rocks' with Penzance promenade in the background taken from the end of Battery Rocks. The Chimney Rocks run to the foreshore to the west of the present day bathing pool. The characteristic 'chimney' is thought to have been lost in a storm. From the left in the background is Marine Terrace, in front of Regent Terrace, to the left of which is the entrance to Queens Street. South Terrace follows which is in front of Daniel Place, to the left of which is the entrance to Morrab Road. Beyond is the Queens Hotel built in 1861. The look out tower was destroyed by fire during renovation in December 1935, but the photograph dates prior to 1911 when the Pavilion was built. Beyond the Queens and the Fairground is the entrance to Alexandra Road.
