Identification
Item: Cornish Housewife Fetching Water. Unknown location.
Description: An unidentified lady stood in the gateway of her stone wall, with two pails and a rope in her hands. The location is unknown. The lady is wearing an apron made of hessian, known locally as a towser or coarse towser. Her thatched cottage is in the background with a watering can outside. Typically for the period, the lady is wearing lace up boots and a hat (very few ladies of this era would have been seen out without a hat). The lady's hands suggest she was used to a life of manual work.
