Item: Royal Mail Omnibus Arriving into Penzance.
Description: A photograph of the horse drawn mail omnibus arriving into Penzance, with 'Royal Mail' livery on the side. The image is likely to date from either the late 1880s or the 1890s and shows the omnibus entering Penzance from the west, approaching Alverton around the bend in front of Alverton Farm or Alverton Cottage as it has been variously known. In the 1891 census, Alverton Farm is occupied by 55 year-old Thomas H Williams (Market Gardener - Employer), his wife Elizabeth (46) and three children ages 16, 14 and 10. The adjacent 'Peu Pond' is occupied by 28 year-old Thomas T Williams (Market Gardener - Employer) and their four children ages 5,4,3, and 11 months. Further information about the mail omnibus is attached as a separate file.
