Item: St Ives Harbour from Harbour Beach during the mackerel season.
Description: A view of St Ives Harbour from the beach with a posed group of people gathered around a small boat facing the camera. From left to right in the photograph are a mackerel boat coming in; the Arches for scouring the Harbour built in 1888-90 with Victoria Extension; Pilot gigs on Smeaton's Pier; SS 498 "Mayflower"; 634SS "Barnabas"; a horse and cart discharging cargo from the "Willie Warren"; the "Willie Warren" coaster (discharging cargo); a Clinker built jumbo, possibly 29SS "Noah's Ark"; nets and 40 SS "Perseverance". The SS 498 "Mayflower was a mackerel boat built 1872; 634 "Barnabas" a mackerel boat built 1878 at Porthgwidden by H.Trevarorrow and is still sailing; "Willie Warren", dandy rigged coaster built 1855 as mackerel boat SS31 but converted in 1901 to a steam fishing boat "Rebecca" SS118, sold 1908; Probably the jumbo "Noah's Ark" ex ships lifeboat, broken up in 1904; 40SS "Perseverance" built 1887, sold 1955. The "Willie Warren" sailed as a coaster between 1890-1901 and the picture was probably taken nearer to 1901.
