Item: St Ives Harbour from the West Pier.
Description: St Ives Harbour from the West Pier with mackerel boats and a schooner on the sand. The boats in the foreground are: SS634 'Barnabas'; SS18 'Young John' and SS326 'Faithful' and the schooner. The buildings on the shore are for left to right: Customs House; William Paynter boatyard (1907); Griers' studio (The Focsle); T. Richards, Sailmaker; E. Fuller, Studio (later Harbour Cafe); Williams boat builder; J.T. Short's "Copperkettle"; Brick built lavatory c.1898; Primitive Methodist Chapel, 1831; Harts blacksmith's shop. In terms of dating the photograph, the view is from the West Pier, completed in 1894, the brick built men's lavatories were built from c. 1898. Manners Church has not yet been built (1905), neither has The Rose Lodge (9.10.1901) near J.T Shorts building. The mackerel boat 'Faithful' ceased in November 1909. The date is therefore c.1898-1901
