Item: Lowestoft Sailing Drifters leaving Penzance Harbour during the mackerel season.
Description: Lowestoft Drifters, and some local mackerel boats, leaving Penzance Harbour watched by unidentified people on the quay. The boat to the immediate left showing a topsail with part of an LT number, which has been recycled from a bigger sail is the LT158 'Fanny'. She is a wooden sailing mackerel drifter, built as a lugger in 1862 for RG&JB Capps. 25.25 tons, 49.9ft long. 15.2ft beam. 6.9ft depth. In July 1886, the 'Fanny' broke her mast near the North Foreland but returned to Lowestoft until March 1893 when she was sold to Norway.
