In 1881, following E.Hain building the 'Trewidden' in 1879, John Banfield, manager of the W.Cornwall Steamship Co built three deep sea steamers: Mounts Bay 1881-94; Carbis Bay 1882-1894; and Boskenna Bay 1882-1895. All three were built on the Tyne by Schlesinger Davis & Co but were considerably less successful than the St Ives Hain Line.
