Item: Mackerel boats leaving Penzance Harbour.
Description: A small fleet of mackerel boats passing the Albert Pier and wreck buoy for SS Ransome in Penzance Harbour, before Newlyn Harbour was built (between 1885-94). The lugger on the right is tacking (lowering her foresail to pass it to the lee side of the mast). None of the mackerel boats are carrying their punts so they are not leaving on a long voyage.
