Identification
Item: Morrab Gardens
Description: A view within Morrab Gardens. No leaves are on the trees but daisies are growing, suggesting an autumn or early spring view. The gardens cover an area of approximately 3 acres largely on the south side of Morrab House which was built for Samuel Pidwell in 1841, and was later acquired along with additional land by the Corporation of Penzance in 1888. Tenders were invited for converting the grassy slope running from the house down towards the sea into a municipal park. The winning entry was from garden designer Reginald Upcher of Portland Place, London; his design which was followed faithfully, was opened to the public in 1889.
