Additional steamers were hired to bring mackerel from St Mary's to Penzance. When there was dissatisfaction with the GWR rail service from Penzance, Gamecock Co. tugs including the 'Gamecock' and 'Stormcock' were hired by the London & South Western Railway to ship mackerel to Plymouth & Southampton.
