Identification
Item: The cannon in Morrab Road
Description: Pictured here before the civil ceremony to unveil the plaque on the wall, the cannon is a demi-culven which was found near Low Lee Rock on 30 October 1916. It and the gun carriage were refurbished and in the photograph, the canon is pictured before being mounted onto the gun carriage. The handle is in the form of a dolphin. The cannon was stolen in the 1990s when an attempt to steal a cannon from St Michael's Mount was thwarted. Its plaque, in 2012, remains outside the public library in Morrab Road, Penzance. In 2014 the Public Library will no longer be on this site. The lamp post was originally sited at the bottom of Alexandra Road when Princess Alexandra paid her visit.
