Item: The Bishop of Plymouth with West Cornwall clergymen greeting children of the parish, c.1950s

Description: This pictures the Roman Catholic clergy at the church in Rosevean Road, Penzance, greeting children of the parish. Left to right are Father Peter Symons, the Bishop’s secretary John Kinane (?); Bishop Cyril Rostieaux; Father Kenneth Meiklem, Penzance Parish Priest. Father Peter Symons was from a St Ives family and was encouraged into the priesthood by Fr Austin Delaney. His father, Bert Symons, a merchant seaman during the 1st World ran a market garden at Heatherbelle, Carbis Bay. Peter was born in 1928, ordained in 1953, retired in 1998 and died in 2006. He was a great singer. Here, the Bishop is greeting the children of the Church.
