Item: Tolcarne cottages in the sunshine
Description: These cottages opposite the Tolcarne Inn were on the main road from Newlyn to Penzance before it was re-built following the 1880 storms. The building on the right is H N Peake and Sons, Shipwrights, Carpenters and Undertakers. They built their vessels on the seaward side of their building which was prone to flooding being just feet from the Tolcarne defensive wall. In Penlee House Museum, official photographs taken in 1962 show the damage done to this area by the Ash Wednesday storms.
