Item: The War Memorial to the men of West Cornwall who lost their lives in the South African War
Description: The South African war had been followed through the correspondence in the Cornish Telegraphs and there was a public celebration when the troops returned. On 5 November at 1530 hours 1904, was the unveiling of this memorial to the fallen of the South African War which ended in May 1902. It was paid for by public subscription, made of Sicilian marble, and is the figure of a volunteer in khaki wearing a Baden-Powell hat and leaning on the butt end of a rifle.
