Item: Carn Euny Barrow, Brane, Sancreed
Description: This is Brane entrance grave, also known as Carn Euny or Uny Barrow which was discovered by Borlase in 1863. The mound is 6 metres (20') in diameter, 2 metres (7') high whilst the chamber, which opens onto the south eastern side, is 2.3 metres (7.5') long, 1.2 metres (4') wide and 0.9 metres (3') high. Entrance to the chamber is through an intentional gap in the kerbs This outer section of the chamber was probably unroofed and forms a kind of passage. The western side slab of the passage abuts the chamber and side slab proper and neatly projects out to the very edge of the kerb ring. There appears to be an obvious gap between the chamber side-slab and the final kerb. It is wondered whether a passage side-slab is missing here. The chamber consists of two large rectangular side slabs with a small back slab between and two large lintel-like roof stones sitting on the upper edges of the side slabs. Packing stones seem to have been used between the rear roof stone and the back edge of the eastern side-slab. This type of 'box' chamber construction with large slabs is quite unusual.
