Item: HMS Drake in Mounts Bay
Description: The armoured cruiser, HMS Drake pictured in Mounts Bay could be part of the Royal Naval Fleet's visit in August 1904 or in 1910. HMS Drake weighed 14,100 tons and was launched at Pembroke Dock on 5 March 1901. She was torpedoed and sunk by a V79 off Rathlin Island on 2 October 1917. Her captain between 1903 and 1904 was John Jellicoe who commanded the Royal Naval Grand Fleet at Jutland.
