Item: Mafeking Day in Market Place, Penzance
Description: It is thought that this could be part of a series of photographs taken of the celebrations in Penzance on 2 June 1902 following the British Victory in the South African Wars but it is labelled Mafeking Day 19 May 1900. The spectators seem to be awaiting a procession. The picture is taken in the afternoon sunshine outside Lloyds Bank, bunting and street gas lighting, with a police constable in the bottom right hand corner.
