Item: Looking up Lower Green Street, Penzance towards St Mary's Church
Description: This photograph shows the Old Yacht Inn (second doorway on the left) and other cottages in Lower Green Street around 1930. The four cottages beyond the gas lamp remain in 2011. At least one, the home of William Rouffignac, was owned by Mrs Edie Chapel. The gateway to the Church no longer exists. Many cottages had to be demolished when the St Anthony Gardens were created and the new road constructed to link the promenade with the harbour. The cottages on the right are on the site of the new Yacht Inn, the art deco building designed by Colin Drewitt in 1936.
