Item: The Serpentine Works at Wherrytown, now demolished and part of the Penzance Promenade
Description: The Serpentine works was built utilising the site of the old Wherry Town Mine which closed in 1840. Lizard Stone was quarried at the Lizard and brought to the factory owned by John Organ, John Bromley and Richard Millet. It employed 37 workers. After closure and demolition, the site became part of the Bolitho Gardens, stone from the factory being re-used in its construction.
