Item: Unveiling the plaque to commemorate the bus route from Helston to the LizardU
Description: Unveiling the plaque at Helston station to mark the 50th Anniversary of the 1st GWR bus service from Helston to the Lizard, 1953. The Great Western Railway planned an extensive system in Cornwall and to assess the viability of a route, they would run a bus service along it before investing in track. An opportunity was missed on this proposed line which would have accessed Culdrose, Predannack and Goonhilly. In the 1960s, Dr Beeching axed the line from Gwinear Road to Helston.
