Item: The Longships Lighthouse
Description: The Longships Lighthouse, taken from an aircraft, stands on Carn Bras 12 metres above sea level 2 kilometres from Lands End. The original tower of 1795 was replaced at a cost of £43,870, by Trinity House and lit in December 1873. The Longships has been automatic since 1988. Its light has a range of 20 kilometres and gives a 5 second flash every 10 seconds, light white to seaward but red sectors show if a ship strays too close to either Cape Cornwall or Gwennap Head.
