Identification
Item: Collecting seaweed for the farm
Description: Two workmen raking up seaweed from the beach at Long Rock. Huge piles of seaweed can collect on the beach here following a spring tide or heavy storm. These workmen would rake the seaweed into piles for carts or tractors to collect and take to spread on their fields for fertiliser. There were many disputes over this practice, but it is still carried out in 2013.
