Description: The annual Royal National Institution of Lifeboats blessing service in Newlyn Harbour, with the W and S lifeboat (1931-1969). Traditionally this service always takes place on a Sunday evening in summer. Being a Sunday, there are St Ives pilchard boats in the harbour, Porth Enys, Arowyn II, Trevose and Our Venture. Crowds attend this annual service usually conducted by the RNMDSF Superintendent or a local clergyman. Prayers are said for the Blessing of the Fleet, an address is given and maritime theme hymns sung. The tradition continues in 2012.
