Item: Passengers on the maiden voyage of the Scillonian
Description: Passengers on the maiden voyage of the Scillonian. This is a general deck scene before sailing, showing part of the bridge structure, wheelhouse and ship's ventilator. The white canvas screen, or dodger, is there to protect deck passengers from sea spray. Raymond Peake described this as an outing of sorts, but the weather was bad and getting worse. Most of the party were seasick. On the return voyage the Scillonian had to dock at Newlyn because of the sea running and the state of the tide in Penzance.
