Item: Mr Percy Bridgeman with his shire horse 'Prince'.
Description: Percy Bridgeman of Chy an Dower, wearing an oilskin and sou'wester with his grey shire horse 'Prince'. When he left school Percy Bridgeman worked for his grandfather Sam Bridgeman who kept six working horses in the Coombe at Chyandour. Most of their work was for the Bolitho's in the smelting works hauling coal for the furnaces. During the First World War Percy was a driver in the Artillery based in Africa. After the war he emigrated to Canada working on the prairie farms. He then moved to the USA as a gardener until the Stock Market Crash in 1929. Percy then returned home and worked with his father on their market garden in the Coombe, Chyandour, growing flowers, early potatoes and broccoli. He retired in the 1950s
