Item: A group of Scillonians leave for Southampton for the launch of the Scillonian, 1955
Description: Almost 100 Scillonians departed Quay Street, Penzance, for a 3 day break by Crimson Tours Coaches to Southampton where the new Scillonian ll Royal Mail ship was to be launched with a bottle of wine by the Duchess of Gloucester. She was presented with the first bunch of daffodils from the Isles of Scilly. Returning to Penzance, the group embarked on the boat's maiden voyage on 17 November 1955.
