Item: Unloading flowers at Penzance from the Isles of Scilly
Description: Dockers are unloading flowers from the Isles of Scilly. They would be taken to the railway station for onward transmission to market. The tide is low, allowing the steamer's bridge wing to lie level with the quay. The tidal range at Penzance meant that the Scillonian might ride with her decks anywhere from 4 or 5 feet above the quay to 11 or 12 feet below it. In her final years of service, the Scillonian had a radar scanner mounted on the roof of her elongated wheel and chart house.
