Item: Penzance and District Industrial Cooperative Bakery in Bread Street, Penzance
Description: On the ground floor of the bakery set into a tiled wall is a Joseph Baker Sons and Perkins Ltd oven, the shelves of which pulled out along the two sets of tracks on the floor. Two temperature gauges are set into the wall above. To the right, is an oven without a door (in the style of the traditional cloam oven) with a thermometer set into the wall at its side. In this picture two bakers are bending over the tray of 180 loaves which have just come out of the oven and are apparently pressing them to see if they are cooked. A third operative stands in the corner beside what looks like three large poles for retrieving the bread from the oven. It is too dark to see what is on the far wall; it could be loaves left to rise. Dark panelling incorporating a recess completes the picture to the right.
