Item: A harvest scene from the late 1940s
Description: This is an Allis Chelmers, possibly WC.jpg model, of 1947 operating a binder. This machine had a windmill device which pushed the corn down for the cutter. After the cut, corn was carried on a belt to the part where binder twine wass put around the sheaf of corn. There were severe food shortages for many years after the war and maximum agricultural production was vital.
