Item: Market Jew Street, Penzance in the 1870s
Description: View looking up Market Jew Street towards the Humphry Davy statue and the east end of the Market House. Frank H James operated in Market Place from 1871 to 1889.The post office on the left had two stories until 1893. Past Symons is the sign for York and Baird who operated from 1881 to 1896. On the right is the Bolitho Bank, Samuel Mears and Son, boot makers, James Henry the tobacconist and hairdresser; Henry Joseph’s pawnbrokers and Oppenheimers’ Furniture market which closed in 1892.
