Item: Lowestoft trawler and Penzance lugger
Description: Penzance Harbour Scene (c.1890): A Lowestoft trawl smack, putting out from Penzance in a stiff south-easterly breeze. Almost alongside her is a smaller Mount’s Bay lugger, also putting to sea. The tack of the lugger’s fore-lug, has been brought aft from the stem head to enable her to sail closer to the wind, and both craft are on the starboard tack, working to clear the conical buoy marking the remains of the steamer Ransome, which sank off the harbour mouth in April 1885.
Condition: Good - slight discolouration to the left and bottom edges. A small amount of foxing also to the edges.
