Item: Porthgwarra
Description: A photograph of the hamlet of Porthgwarra. Six houses lie within the green landscape, which features stone walling and field patterns. Clockwise the properties were a thatched cottage (front left) which was demolished about 1880; A tarred wood and galvanised iron dwelling which was built by Charles and Annie Jackson in 1870 and demolished in the early 1960s; Sea View cottage built by the Jackson family in the 1890s on land leased from the St Aubyn Estate; The Terrace also built by the Jackson family. The land in front of this property and Sea View Cottage was used for growing vegetables; A thatched cottage (at the far right of the photograph) which was probably the oldest building until it was demolished in the early 1920s and Cove Cottage which was a single storey cottage with storage below. John Thomas Jackson, his wife and seven children lived in this three room unit.
Condition: Good - slight over all fading to the photograph and a small amount of foxing to the top half of the photograph.
