Description: A photograph of Round Island and Bishop Rock LIghthouse off the Isles of Scilly. Bishop Rock Lighthouse was built in 1845 but destroyed in a gale in 1850. It was recased in 1852. When it was rebuilt in the 1880s the workmen lived in stone huts on the uninhabited island of Rosevear in the Western Rocks. The coloured lights and music at their parties could be seen and heard at St Mary's. James Douglass, the lighthouse builder and engineer, taught the men to live on limpets and puffins eggs. In the evenings, he would play his flute.
