Item: Bleu Bridge Gulval

Description: A photograph of Bleu Bridge in Gulval. Constructed from a number of very large granite stones, the one sided iron railing is secured by a standing stone to the right. This early Christian inscribed stone stands in a hedge near the footpath over the stream at Barlowena Bottom, about 1.5km from Gulval. This has the inscription: QVENATAVCI IC DINVI FILIVS. Again the syntax is Latin. It should read FILII not FILIVS. The inscription means "(the stone of) Quenataucus, here, the son of Dinuus". Or maybe it should read QVENATAVCUS and FILIVS. The interpretation would then be "Quentaucus (lies) here, son of Dinuus". Apparently the two names are Irish and not Cornish. The inscription dates from the 6th century.

Condition: Good - Discolouration to the left side and bottom edge of the photograph.
